FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many infusion treatments will I need?
The number of infusion treatments you need and will receive varies based on your diagnosis, symptoms,
and your body’s response to the treatment. Normal protocols vary from once per month to 6 treatments over
a 2-week period. You may feel relief after only one treatment, but multiple treatments are generally
recommended to achieve optimal results. Results typically last for 3-6 months. Based on your response to
ketamine infusions, you and your provider will determine the best course for long-term treatment.
Will insurance cover ketamine infusion therapy?
Ketamine has long been considered an extremely safe drug and is most commonly used as an anesthetic for
medical procedures. The FDA currently considers ketamine to be an off -label treatment for pain management
and depression, therefore it is not covered by health insurance.
What should I expect during a ketamine infusion?
You will receive ketamine intravenously through an IV in your arm. The infusion will last from 1-2
hours and will be followed by a recovery period. Expect the procedure to take a total of 3-4 hours. You
will feel no pain other than a small prick while starting the infusion line, and you may even experience a
sense of mild dissociation or euphoria. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home following your
infusion.
